All right, this might not be the right spot for it, if not I aplogize.
Personally i'm not a big boxing fan. But two thoughts did occur to me when i looked at Boxing manager.
1. Gladiator Manager. You could use the same engine as Boxing Manager, just make it gladiatiors. I know that in many ways you'd be rewriting huge sections of the code to account for weaopns etc. But it's just a thought.
2. Martial arts Manager. Create a school, select techniques for people to learn, train your star students, fight in tournaments. Again i understand you'd be re-writing huge sections of code, but it's just a thought.

Hello,
those are actually good ideas. I had thought about the martial arts before, with a real fighting action, Street Fighter style

even if probably too hard for me to program.
However is not a bad idea, the problem I think is the fight itself, don't know if would be cool to watch like UBM is (apparently hehe).
For the gladiator there could be a combat system (with weapons, and special attacks) and you could fight with team vs team, making it a cool idea indeed. Yes, definitely will take it into consideration for future games

Make the gladiators one. There are a few gladiators sims around, but none is really interesting. Looking at your past games I have no doubts you could make an interesting game...

I have to agree, make the gladiator one first. A decent martial arts game would require a LOT more detail than a gladiator one. As was pointed out, there aren't that many good gladiator games out there. Especially ones that JUST concentrate on the gladiator aspect. Perhaps something that would allow you to buy things for the school and improve all the gladiators in your stable?

Hmm true, that's really not a bad idea, will seriously think about it...! thanks for suggesting.

Now Random1 will be pissed because we hijacked his UBM forums and almost managed to convince jack to work on another game rather than on UBM2

Haha well I can build a new "engine" and use it both for UBM2 and for this gladiator game.
Right now though I'm officially still on "holidays"...

Well here's a thought. Just while you're on holidays. I do this when I'm taking a break from writing, take a notebook and slam down all the random ideas. You don't have to actually work on the code, just let the ideas ferment. Use this engine for UBM2 and a gladiator game. Then when you think you're ready, talk about the martial arts one. You might want to look at some of the free download online games that feature martial arts. (World of Kung fu, 12 sky, 9 dragons, conquest) Currently they're ok. Not great, just ok. I could go into a page long rant on why they're only ok. If you look at the gladiator games out there, the pickings are even slimer. Honestly i would rather see you work on a good gladiatior game and THEN go onto a martial arts game, then see you create ANOTHER ok martial arts game. Hope that made sense.

Yes definitely. Actually was fun because BEFORE reading your post, I updated my blog with this entry:
http://www.winterwolves.net/blog/2008/05/24/future-titles-of-winter-wolves-tycoon-games/
in practice was thinking the same as you suggested: doing first an "engine" that I can use both for UBM2 and the gladiator game, and then later the martial arts one.
I'll try downloading one of the games you suggested now, to see why they're just ok and not great. hopefully will be able to understand it

I like the idea of Gladiator Manager.
The tower of destiny, classes, and powers could be used. You could have mage versus bard. Bard versus Necro. Psion versus Cleric.
You could also use some of the Tower of Destiny Graphics and maybe you could import a Tower of Destiny character!

Hmm indeed isn't a bad idea at all. Share character creation between the two games. You can earn exp points both by dungeon exploration or by arena fighting! or maybe you could learn two different things, unique skills you get only with the arena that you can later use in the rpg game...
Yes definitely a good idea

I just hope we don't read the news one day and see "Game creator dead of work exhaustion". Guess that's what you get for being really there for your customers.

I don't think too many game developers have the top guy there every day on the forums answering questions for everybody.

Yes, indeed I should take an holiday, a real one!

but for me is fun even just reading forums and brainstorming new ideas, so I guess is fine. I just take things much slower, like with Supernova 2, normally I would have finished the game in 6 months, instead took me 10

but based from sales and user feedback seems was really a good idea, and Knockout was the one who made the more interesting suggestions for it before I released the game.
Same about your UBM improvments over the past years.
So spending time here discussing stuff actually help my business too, and that's cool

THIS IS NOT A PLUG!! I've been trying out an online game called "Duels" which might be worth you checking out Jack. Simply to show you just how BAD the gladiator style games out there are. At first it plays pretty nicely, right up to about level 15. Then you start noticing that everyone who does real well at it is paying money. Now i understand that they have to make money, but making it so that someone who doesn't pay has almost no chance of wining against a paying player seems a touch unfair.
Pros
1. Tokens are used to buy a "pack" which is essentially a grab back of three random items. They are seaprate from gold.
2. Simple easy to use graphics, nothing to download.
Cons.
1. the difference between races is purely graphic.
2. its a slot machine. you have no control over what sort of attacks you make, really it's all about who has the bigger stick vs better armor.
3. Community support is negligable.
Now consider this is one of the better one's out there Jack. Now do you understand WHY we're all drooling at the prospect of a Gladiator Manager??

Wow yes, now I understand... that game has basically no strategy at all, like playing the slot machine indeed
Sigh I wish I could work on 5 projects at once...

...right now I can work only on 3! but surely this will be one on the first in my to-do list after Planet Stronghold and Tower of Destiny.
