Achievement ideas

Post by yayswords »

I'm avoiding obvious ones like "reach level x" and "complete the game".

Humiliation
Defeat Krimm by having Riley land the finishing blow.

Unbeatable
Defeat Master Yeldin with Chalassa participating.

Don't spend it all in one place
Don't allow the Master of the Pits to take more than 10 gold from you.

Pacifist
Solve the following quests without resorting to violence: Secret Formula, Bandits stealing pelts (if possible? I always fight them :P), Animal Problem, plus any future ones where the option exists. Should include paying for Jariel's memory crystal too, and Ardin's tab I guess.

Like I would pass on the experience
Same as Pacifist except you solve them with your fists.

For the next three (or eventually four): You are awarded the achievement the first time you meet the criteria.

Those arrows could hit someone in the knee: Ninim
Clear all Ninim areas of animal encounters.

Those arrows could hit someone in the knee: Dingirra
Clear all Dingirra areas of mercenary encounters.

Those arrows could hit someone in the knee: Shacklesplit
Clear all Shacklesplit areas of ancient laserdragon encounters.

Unless this was changed since Act1 beta, you always fail the quest if you negotiate with the bandits and take their money.

I'll suggest
I'll hit on you, anyway
Max out the relationship counter for characters with nomance option.
Eg Chalassa/Jariel for Shea, Riley/Krimm for Althea, maybe Rowinda for either.... All need to be maxed out before the achievement will be given.

(EDIT: could also be called Romanceable?) :P

high-flyer: lvl 7 at the end of act 1 (also 17 (?) at the end of act 2)

We risked our lives for THAT?!
Make Rowinda eat all her candy sticks in one battle.

Would be funny if this could trigger a bonus dialogue from her about an aching stomach or so.

Even Krimm enjoyed that story
Complete Riley's flashback after failing at least two stunts.

No prices on their heads
Complete Chalassa's flashback without assassinating any guards.

Haste makes waste
Complete Chalassa's flashback by having the Band of Bloodspeed deal the finishing blow to Ormond.

The Old Horde
Complete Krimm's flashback without ending a battle with fallen party members.

Not the most inspired one, admittedly.

Sober and disorderly
Start five tavern brawls.

I count two so far, or three if you side with a certain family. The final number depends on how many will be possible of course.

Riley Cyrus
Convince Riley to sing along to one of Jariel's songs.

This one doesn't really have an opportunity already, but the name begs that you create one!

Now get behind me
Win ten Ninim battles with only Vaelis taking damage.

The name is also what he says when you resurrect him.

The battle of the ears
Win five battles in act two or later without using elven characters, and five without using human characters.

Chalassa counts as human.

Are achievements really a good idea at all? I mean, either the game is interesting or not; either the game does not need achievements, or they should rescue what cannot be rescued any more. (I believe SOTW is a good game, but I doubt adding achievements adds anything except workload for jack.)

Just my opinion.

I believe they help the game sell on Steam. I don't particularly care if there are achievements or not, but they were used in LtAP so I'm guessing Jack wants them :)

Well yes for Steam users seems a big deal  I'll also add only simple achievements, I don't want to spend too much extra time on this. For example "Defeat Krimm by having Riley land the finishing blow" as much as it's a great idea probably won't do it since needs more time.
But really for example adding all Loren's achievements took me 1-2 days, including testing, so is not a problem. I'll add them as last thing of course once the game is finished :)

How about making Riley solo Krimm? What's easy to do and what's not? Or are you just gonna do the bread and butter stuff like unlock this trait and complete this act?

No will do a mix of simple ones and a few difficult. The "who killed who" condition is actually easier to do than I thought, so I can even do that :)

Yeah but I wanna know what is easy for you to do (it's about difficulty to program, not difficulty to achieve) and what isn't, so I don't waste time coming up with achievements you won't implement anyway :P
