mature content in future games

Post by jack1974 »

In future, the only way to be sure to have full access to the optional (I'll always try to have it optional) mature content in my games, will be to buy directly on itch.io.

Why? Recently Valve suddenly changed their mind, after allowing pretty much all kind of porn-VN without problems in the past  I just got a notice to fix Roommates for example, otherwise in two weeks it will be removed. As you can guess it was pretty scary since removing Steam is a big hit to my finances :o

Then, reading around there are various ways to "fix" this, however differently from the past you can't link directly to an uncensor patch or other system. I have very limited time and I prefer to invest that time in doing games, rather to do those workaround, which all have various problems, extra support requests, etc. I have no time for such things.

So from now on, I'll treat Steam like the mobile appstores, where you can't have any kind of adult content in it. Sorry but wasn't my decision. The only place where I can decide (at least for now - watch out for the INQUISITORS!! ROFL) is my own site/itch.io.

This sudden, unexpected Steam ban is even hitting a game like HuniePop, which has been on Steam for more than 3 years and made millions of $$$.

Rumors cite some Washington State anti-porn law, but as usual Valve acts without informing anyone why.

Yeah if it was just me and some other minor indies - they won't care since it's a drop in the ocean. But even some big names like those... wow.
It seems though that "erotic" content should be OK. Like Cursed Lands. As long as there's no penetration or genitals shown. Full frontal nudity should be OK (since there's that in Cursed Lands!).

Anyway we'll see. You never know what they're going to do lol! buy direct and stay safe from surprises!!

Actually even partial frontal nudity seems to be the exact thing they're cracking down on, so you can probably expect Valve to suddenly change their stance on Cursed Lands shortly.

Kindred Spirits on the Roof, another huge title, with a few scenes of extremely tasteful partial frontal nudity, has also been targeted for takedown.

It would be really silly for Cursed Lands though - they explicitly asked for a cheat to review ALL the romance CGs and took them 25 days!!! It's like saying "yes is OK" then the day after "ah no, it's not OK!"
I am not surprised by anything anymore though

(also, I think Leena's portrait image shows genitals now that I think about it... OOPS)

It's pretty much any nudity in the VN category (Even if it's censored with light beams, etc) that's being targeted although (so far) Ladykiller in a Bind has not been targeted.

Well then Cursed Lands DEFINITELY shouldn't be allowed! LOL. It's going to be fun:
- congratulations your game was approved for release!
<2 hours later>
- your game is in violation of the policy, you have two weeks to fix or will be removed from Steam!

I am considering if to release the censored version only on Steam at this point. Will make people angry but, after all, it's not my fault.

OK I am putting the censored version of Cursed Lands on Steam. However, if you remember how it worked in Loren, trying the same thing might work in this game as well... I can't post it on Steam myself but if some other user does, I wouldn't mind

You mean going inside teh game file folder, and delete the censored.txt? yes, it would be really a shame if this trick was shared in Steam forums by someone else beside you...! the poor Steam users might lose their sight looking at all those evil uncensored images!

Gaben obviously has gotten insane with the power and thinking about Half Life 3. That's the only coherent explanation.
