Well damn... I use Steam as a place to collect games...
Can we just use the delete censored.txt method for games instead of having "oooooh porn - kind of" stuff deleted completely from Steam versions :(

Yes that's how it works (at least for now) :)

Arbitrary guidelines is one of the reasons I've tried to buy direct outside an app store wherever possible. App store changes its guidelines and then suddenly a game I bought is removed or irrevocably altered by some automatic patch.

I hope this is just a Steam thing (because Steam is the big player so they probably get more attention from politicians and the like), and that services like itch won't follow.

Yes, worse case I'll just continue to provide a workaround patch/system like all others do. But itch.io is so small compared to Steam (a drop in the ocean lol) that I don't think will be affected.

Yes, however in my case is a bit different  Since they said:
We would like to take a second look at your game and we will send you a follow up email with more information. If your game has remained unchanged since its first approval and release, and is properly described and labeled as 18+, our response will most likely not have any further feedback. If you have shipped Steam updates including new content that would materially change our previous approval decision, our follow up email will include feedback about specific issues related to your game.
and ahem in my case, I added the full nudity content last year, after they approved the original game. I added the age gate etc, but not sure what they'll say. Would be fun if Roommates ended up being the ONLY game affected by all this mess haha

(considering the mega attention it would bring, I'm almost hoping that's the case LOL)

After the Steam disaster, GOG suddenly wants to do visual novels, maybe you should contact them again?

Yep, though I think they'll be flooded by the big names, so not sure. In any case I'm not too eager to add yet another platform to support... both Steam and itchio are really super dev friendly to use, not sure about them.

So, now that Steam says they'll allow pretty much everything, do you still need to censor your games with weird patch files? Or will Valve change their mind again in four months?
