I admit, I loved the small bit about Jackalopes in Loren 1 (a written mention where Chambara animates the skeleton of one). The bit of milking jackalopes, their mimicry, and fondness of alcohol are all stories from the Old West.

Jackalopes
Jackalopes are more elusive, larger cousins to normal rabbits and hares. They resemble their lapine cousin with one major difference: jackalopes sport a pair of antlers.

While their head ornamentation makes it all but impossible for jackalopes to hide in the brush or underground in burrows, they do have several defensive measures at their disposal.

The most obvious one is their antlers. While they prefer to run at the slightest hint of danger, jackalopes are more than capable of stabbing an unwary foe with their racks. During rutting season, male jackalopes can become downright homicidal. Certain fringe scholars hypothesize greaves, and other protective leggings were first invented by people who shared jackalopes as neighbors.

Jackalopes possess a second gift: mimicry. If cornered by a predator, a jackalope will utter a roar from a nastier creature in a bid to drive its hunter off. The Nomads have stories of an inhuman chorus joining tribal bards in song around the campfire.

It is possible to milk jackalopes, and there is a growing business in artisanal cheeses created from jackalopes. Curiously, jackalopes are also fond of alchololic drinks, especially whiskey, but any will do in a pinch. A current favourite among the hoity-toity in Grimoire is a strand derived from an Amazonia rose-petaled wine.

Just a minor bit of musing about the Royal Laboratory mentioned in Spirited Heart...

King’s Royal Laboratory

Measured at a mile high, the King’s Royal Laboratory is a tower said to be a mile-high which dominates the Triberg skyline. This is the preeminent location for magical research in the whole kingdom.

Traditionally, when someone is accepted into the laboratory, they essentially renounce ties to the outside world. Officially, this is to consolidate resources and research. Unofficially, many suspect this is the best way to keep tabs on the various wizards and alchemists, and channel their voracious curiosity into more suitable outlets. It does seem to be working as the number of monster rampages is definitely on the decline.

Of course, there will always be those individuals who accuse the researchers of delving into things man was not meant to know. Needless to say, the female researchers are briefly bemused by this notion before turning back to push the boundaries of thaumaturgical research.
