Just thought of something after playing some of Hanako's games:

Could we get an automatic updater, where if we check for it, it will automatically inform us of new updates and let us do so without checking the forums?
jack1974
That one is hand-coded, the new Ren'Py version has that feature but works a bit differently, in practice I need to upload the whole file again every time. But probably will use it for beta testing of next RPG, or at least code a simple "check for new update" and then you'll have to download it manually :)

I've many ideas about the sequel, including some that favor more the classic "exploration" part of RPG, since is one of the main complaint I got for the games (I got very few complaints in general, but this is one). I had the idea of using a isometric view like Puzzle Quest 2, where you could see the town and click on some zones/characters to interact (so not a full iso map with pathfinding, it would still be quite simple to code but require lot of art).

As always it comes up to the question: better to invest more in the game, making people wait one year more, or it wouldn't be worth it? considering how eager people seems to be, perhaps is better if I save those "experiments" to other minor/secondary RPGs and not in probably the most waited game (Loren's sequel).

Oh, I wasn't thinking new art or anything! Just wondered if it would work with existing sprites + existing map. Honestly all I think it really needs is a bit more framing for the tasks--it would make the cities feel more "alive" if that makes sense. It wouldn't even have to involve talking to someone--you could just have a bit of introductory text between the "Tasks" button and the menu of tasks the first time you look at the tasks for each town ("After asking around the town, you find out that they've been having trouble with bandits attacking farms. They also hold regular tournaments in the arena, etc etc etc")

Ah ok, yes that can be done without problems. Probably the texts should appear only once, otherwise people who are grinding would skip them all next. Maybe in the sequel I'll reduce the amount of grinding needed anyway

I didn't read it in this thread, but I think it would be cool if you LI had a slightly different default dialogue line when the romance has advanced past a certain point. So, in Loren 1, after say 3 hearts, instead of Rei saying 'It's boring when I haven't killed anything in a while' he could say something to recognise the developing attraction - like 'It's boring when I haven't killed anything in a while... Though I guess you make things a little more interesting'.

I'm sure you guys already have something sorted with Loren 2, especially since there are continued romances, but I think it could make things seem a bit more immersive.
jack1974
Yes that's a good suggestion indeed. For the sequel yes the beginning will change a bit depending who you choose to be your previous romance (which could even be "none"). We're doing that in Planet Stronghold 2 now and is interesting to see all the different beginnings :)

Do romances carry over to the sequel?

What about other things, like killing Mesphit?
jack1974
The romances carry over, meaning you choose in the beginning who you romanced. As for Mesphit and other plot thing we're going to go with a "canon" ending, otherwise it would be a big mess - obviously, he survived! 8)

Will you be able to start a game without a previous romance? I don't want to have to break up with a character to romance the new ones...
jack1974
Yes you'll be able to choose to be single at beginning of the story if you want

we all wait for breza ;-)
jack1974
Breza is so cool, that I've been toying with the idea of having a game dedicated completely to her story (before first Loren's game events). Ah, so many ideas, so little time

Fun because she was to be a minor/secondary character, and Aleema named Breza herself. I didn't think that I would like it so much. For me before Lore was just "cool amazon sprite 5b"
DunKalar
Then all hail Aleema for giving Breza to us :D

I already liked her in the first game next to Chambara cuz of their rude behavior towards the PC. Chamby was just a little bit cooler :)

Now I just cannot wait for the .... oh my gosh add on .... to catch Breza too ;D

thanks for the suffering Jack

Challenging battles that doesn't look retarded like 6 Heroes vs 6 grunts. Perhaps outnumbered battles, like 4v6 or even a bigger grid? So we can get 6 v 12 or 16!

Cheers

It's not too unusual for a minor/secondary character to be unexpectedly popular. It happens all the time in anime/games - heck, sometimes people just SEE the character, they never have a name, or say anything, but they become really popular with the fans anyway.

It's a magical, magical thing I think.

Just play through the first game and really enjoy it. But I have a big annoyance with the camp talk. With so many party members each have something interesting to say but nothing to keep track of their conversation is a big turn off for me. I have to go to camp and click on all the party members to see if they have something new to say, beside their usual dismiss, every time I complete a quest because I don't want to miss any dialog. There is nothing to show if a party member have any new to say so I have to go through them all.

So for the sequel maybe you could do something to show if a party member have a new dialog option for player to see, like an arrow on top of their head if they have a new conversation with the Hero.

Sorry if this had already being request.
jack1974
Yes, other people mentioned that and indeed is something that definitely needs to be added. Maybe if I have time will change it even in Loren since it's annoying as you say :) thanks

Good idea. That would certainly increase my willingness to replay the original since it cuts down on monotonous clicking while checking for new camp dialogues.

Maybe a thought bubble over their heads?

Like a Heart or a ... or a ! or a ? or even a  . Maybe a  or even a Memphit

Cheers

Hello alltogether. What i want for Loren 2 and what i have already mentioned on Steam Greenlight is a better Story.

Loren 1:

The Charackters are Fun.

The Dialogues sweet.

The Romance? I like it!

The perspective of not being the Hero but being the servant of a hero. Unorthodox cool idea.

The Story??? OMG "I AM A EVIL DETHKNIGHT AND WANT TO CONQUER THE WORLD. MWUHAHAHAH. (Did i alread mention that i am evil? Who cares!) MWUHAHAHAH. (What you say you heard that story already 1 Million Times. I dont care!!!) MWUHAHAHA.

Oh come on! Please give me something...anything...else! Think of for example a Story like Game of Thrones. In this Story no body is clearly good or bad. The Story does not even start with the idea of someone being good or bad, but just assigning an AGENDA to every Person. The Person all act according to their Agendas which than naturally create conflicts. The Author thinks not of creating trouble, but the charackjters he has create, start to create the trouble on their own.

Why not doing the same here? Yeah this cannot be Game of Thrones or something similar, but why not use the same principle. Don“t Create Heroes and Villains but Characters with agendas and background. This can ussually create much more interesting stories, than the "Evil Guys tries to conquer the world"-Story.

If just this one thing, is done well. I willl be satisfied. The Games here are interesting and offer something asside the Mainstream, so i find it worth supporting, but you really need a good storywriter!

P.S. And can we please get along without this political correct "Let us get over racism" background massage. I am not a racist but after hearing the "we are all the same, no matter if humans, elves, lizards, or penis-tentacle-monsters! Now let us all hug each other and built together a happy future"-Message also one million times i am also getting tired of it... Just another suggestion!
