Easier maybe, but what if your PC breaks? or do you keep save games for all the possible romance endings?

All of my computers have Loren in it, so no harm done, and yes I keep save games in my flash drive so what.

My PC breaks a lot, and it might not be applicable, but I know several units that lasted for years and isn't breaking at all. I think you can actually finish Loren's sequel before any PC breaks XD

But well, maybe you can give a choice to either load a savegame or do the "how the first game ended" test before starting? :) Or maybe it will let you load a save game when it detects some in the PC. Just my two cents. :)
jack1974
No because the save game is tied to the game. I can't just load on Loren2 or Planet Stronghold 2 a save from the first game, it wouldn't be compatible. The only way would be to store some custom fields on the computer HD when the first game ends, but at that point I'd rather use a choice system in the beginning of the new game than make an update on the old games only for that :)
kuracha-macha
Ah, I see! O: I'm sorry for suggesting such a silly thing, I don't know much about coding ^^; It is a lot of work just making the choice system in the first part make sense, after all. And I just realized that most of those "loading savegames from prequel" games do make the player save before quitting, that must be what you were talking about about storing custom fields.
jack1974
Yes, it's not that it can't be done, but I think the system I'm going to use is simpler for me, and also for the players :)
Nightsnow
Also it adds the benefit off not having to replay through the whole game 1 again. (Even if I will be playing through game from time to time, because I enjoy it. I might not have time to go the whole way to the ending each time).

Of course now I am curious about the spoilery stuff. I guess there is no chance that you will reveal it, since it was spoilery.
jack1974
Well is everything in the game (+ expansion). But in practice:

1) previous romance (or none)

2)

how Fost was defeated? obviously since Loren and the PC MUST be present in the sequel, the sacrifice option might be only Karen. Haven't spoken with Aleema about this carefully yet but I think we'll avoid the sacrifice. So either Fost was defeated by Sauzer demon or by Zeal

Well actually was shorter than I thought! But everything can still change from now to when we'll write the game. The only sure choice right now is the previous romances, for the other we might just go for a "canon ending", since I expect it will be already hard to write with all the previous romances continuation.
Nightsnow
Well, I thought it might be that. I will prefer if you can do it of course, but I've seen all those variants an have a save with them all so I guess I could live with it being canonized.

ROFL, today sent Aleema some new sketches for the new romances (from now on I always ask the second opinion of a woman!). I had doubts on some of them, but the comments on Saren / Jul sketches were totally hilarious, I laughed in front of the monitor

I'm probably going to make a collection of the discarded sketches and offer them as a pre-order bonus when Loren 2 will come out, so you can see what we were talking about! Don't get me wrong there is still plenty of sexyness in the game, but since this time I don't want people to judge it only for the sexy aspect, we have two version of the ending CG that can be played also by everyone (with full clothes on or only slightly undressed)
biscuit
Will the collection include commentary from you and everyone else involved? I think some of them would be hilarious, as well as neat in seeing why you decided to include/exclude certain pics.
jack1974
Well if she agrees, sure (they were private emails so maybe we said some things that normally wouldn't say in public!)

Yesterday for example I had an interesting talk about how personally I don't see a difference (in term of sexyness) between a woman with naked butt or wearing a thong  see those are the problems that game developers must face!!!
Aleema
lol, our emails ... They are so NSFW. I'm glad Jack is so professional, because I've said some things and sent some photos that would be super embarrassing with anyone else.

I wouldn't mind making new commentary for any pre-order bonus.
jack1974
Haha yes we could keep the content but change the wording a bit
josipa24
Don't you dare change anything, Jack, because now I have to see the uncensored version  . Pics and everything!
jack1974
Damn then the bonus content would definitely be NSFW!
kuracha-macha
With that, an image of Jul's butt waving to me appeared in my head.

Not good.

But still, I'm sure those sketches are worth seeing. >D I like seeing things in-progress, and ohohoho those sexy sexy sketches, I'm definitely going to pre-order!
krisslanza
I'm not sure what's wrong with imagining Jul's butt, naked or thong-clad. I mean, she IS a succubus. There isn't any shame in that, right?

Now Jack can release a normal edition, a pre-order edition, and WILD AND UNCUT pre-order!

Well beside the ethical reasons Aleema just detailed, it's also a smart business decision. The current gaming market does not satisfy the demand for BxB romances.

Even if say there are only 10% of all people interested in boys love fiction, that's still way more then our audience. Of course not every one of them will want to buy Loren, but even if only a few of them will buy Winterwolves games because of their BxB content it will end in a profit for Jack. So in a very real sense the game might be even more expensive without the BxB content, since we would miss those sales.

To summarize my point, even those of us who do not play the BxB content will profit from it's inclusion in the end. (It's funny that I of all people would end up making a capitalistic argument. Maybe my cold is getting to me :) )

While I understand your point, it's sometimes pretty frustrating to have game where you only have fun with half of it. I felt the same in all Bioware RPGs where you can play EVIL. But if the development cost is lower then the increased profit from people who like it, I end up profiting from it as well. Since either the game will be cheaper or the studio has more funds for the next game.

Thanks for your suggestion and worrying about us, but I think we will end up making a better game for both BxB and (BxG,GxB,GxG) lovers if the percentage of those romances is balanced.

It's good that they're included - but I would like to have an option to disable BxB romances - in Loren I have several times accidentally started a BxB romance during cutscenes, and I'd like to be able to avoid that without needing to consult a guide.
jack1974
That's strange, the BxB during cutscenes should trigger only if you previously flirted with that character... do you remember when it was ?
Aleema
I made sure to mark every flirt with "Romance" so that people specifically wouldn't claim they accidentally did anything. Draco does compliment your appearance and you have the option to turn him down or be flattered, but that is the only thing I can think of. But that's something I won't be removing but probably actually including more of, as discussed earlier about characters flirting with you before you flirt with them. And also I will be replacing the "Joking/Forceful/Romance" options with actual lines of dialogue ... But I'll probably keep the "(Romance)" tag just to make doubly sure that picky people have nothing to complain about.
