Cool, the enhanced loot screen I dreamt of
[As I read your tweet about the wine I thought you would implement hunger and thirst. JPM (of
http://it-he.org/) described Ultima's system as: First off, the Avatar is a junkie. He's addicted to two main substances, 'Food' and potions. Food is probably the most dangerous, since the Avatar is totally unable to kick the habit and withdrawal will kill him. Worse yet, the other party members will find themselves getting sucked into the habit too and will also become Food users simply by virtue of being in close proximity to the Avatar.]

Nice job! Are the stats random though?
In this case yes, but I can define fixed objects if I want, is not a problem
As I read your tweet about the wine I thought you would implement hunger and thirst.
Haha would be cool, but no I want to stop adding features

Picking up a reward item sure looks promising.

Please, no forced carrying around provisions! Forget Food, Forget Drink, Forget Realism!
Always running out of food (and then getting poisoned because you're desperate enough to try and find your "fix" in a giant rat's carcass), it's the killjoy of exploring (in Ultima).

Well, we're
already killing a bunch of animals in Act 1 and skinning for their pelts. All that meat is going to waste...

Let's sell the meat for more cash! Can't they survive on lembas or something?

Sell it to the tavern in exchange for meals for recovery yesyes.
In other news. I am indeed obsessing over other stats than regen now, but still obsessing! It's actually less frustrating like this though because good general upgrades appear a lot more often than +2 regen items did.
Oh I also rerolled my Mormont loot until I got a 5 damage staff

to extend this to not only to selection but the item generator itself: afaik +magic does nothing for warrior/thief classes - would it be possible to teach the generator to exclude magic for items not usable by any magical class? Or to ignore the magic value when comparing items (I think I saw one sword with +2 magic but -1 speed marked as green - as Vaelis (to my knowledge) is not a beneficiary of higher magic values this was one of the cases were the item comparator was objectively wrong)?

small addition: I just saw a "Handcrafted Regenerating Morning Star" without regenerating abilities

If you exclude regen to rare and above you should also change your name generator

Magic is involved in determining spell damage (target is compared to caster before applying the resistances), so is not useless at all even for Thieves/Warriors

ah, I see - thanks a lot (and I edited my last entry while you replied, not sure if you saw it)

Yes need to remove the HP/SPRegen at beginning of the generator, right now I just set the values to zero at the end so that happens

Maybe it means the Morning Star itself regenerates if it gets damaged. You haven't had to pay any repair costs while using it, have you?

Pssh, shut up - not that Jack will implement this. Equipment wearout is nearly as doubleplusunfun as food management.

Originally for Loren I wanted to implement a "Condition" value for each item to determine the effectiveness, but probably I'm glad I didn't do it

I just played a ranger/hunter combo and for the first time I was able to use all the gold - though I feared my party would be mediocre equipped as all three chars are fighter-types with similar needs equipment-wise. But no, I shopped all the time and was able to improve my accessories with every shop restocking.
The selection for druids is simply too small, would it be possible to convince Shagala to expand her business?
PS regardings shops: I think Laroneas establishment should be called general store, general shop sounds somehow strange (a rather bold claim as English is not my native language - please correct me if I'm wrong

)

I agree the selection is small, but I find that it's usually very rewarding to equip a druid. You can get some sweet +speed and +magic. If you try to outfit any other class armor-wise you'll mostly be looking at defense increases, and if you don't lose speed in the process you should be happy. Try to equip a hunter for the purpose of being a backliner. How much +attack can you get? A little from jewelry and weapons and that's it. That being said, classes that rely on their attack score seem to be well balanced around it being lower too, so it works out okay in that regard.
Also druid equipment is cheaper, presumably because price is a function of total stats and they don't have as much defense on their armor and damage on their weapons.
Of course if you're not willing to do a bit of mousewheel roulette you may still find it annoying to equip your druid

You're right, "General Store" is the most common term for that kind of establishment.

nah, 1.5 hours of wheel-acrobatics feels too much like grinding - been there, done that, was shit.
I would propose to deactivate shop-shuffling altogether and increase the goods by 50 %.

The inventory is randomed at some point. How are you going to prevent reloading it?
Improving the quality of the average item in the shop would certainly help either way. Shops randoming low quality items is so pointless, especially the ones that sell almost no items to begin with.
Mousewheel roulette is a symptom. The vastly varying quality of equipment from the so-far almost exclusive source thereof is the disease.

There'll be more shops in Dingirra than in the small Ninim
