It's actually weird because I feel like game developers usually do an awful job with their female characters/designs(Aldorlea ...), but you have created some pretty awesome fictional females. Rowinda was literally the best part of SotW(and this is an OLD female -- old females being part of a main cast is not common). PSCD has some particularly awesome females(Diana, Galina, Lola, Mira, Mizuki, Queen Regina, etc ...). And, yeah, fanservicey leaf/armor bikinis aside, Loren portrays multiple ladies as powerful, opinionated and intelligent characters.

That said, romance-able guys need to level up. Dorks and robots are cute on occasion but don't forget to throw smooth-talking studs in there too.

For the record, I would totally buy Suoer Mario DlC! I kind of noticed your older characters tend to be awesome. Mario, Rowinda and Almipheso(Yeah I knowI butchered that spelling) are solid characters. Love em. You made each of them distinct and interesting.

And Ill wrap this up by saying I am EAGERLY waiting for roger steel!

I will admit, I usually play the gay romances after the straight ones and Riley and Draco are really whump characters like the ones everyone picks on for comedy and you keep hoping they kinda mature up a bit. But why I am so surprised Samuel is not higher rated in PSCD is he may be the one normal buff male LI.

I also believe Amunkiki was the least popular romance? So maybe there is some truth in it. But the old Nook, Draco, and mesphit look a bit more feminine than some of the women, which is fine, but when majority it seems a bt off.

Haha. I, too, play all the romances. The only one I skipped was Draco, cause I really don't like the wakka-wakka-wakka dork-types.

Ah, Amukiki's poll-results! He managed to beat out Myrth(she is SUCH a cliche male-fantasy character. Gorgeous, romantically shy, super nice virgin redhead who innocently wears practically nothing ... ).

I think when we look at polls we gotta look at competition. Amukiki was directly competing with the super popular Mesphit who is A) also really buff and B) has a more interesting storyline with lots more bite to it. Mesphit's romance had a love/hate thing with a very legitimate power struggle in it(he joins the party in chains -- that struggle is a bit deeper than the 'who is a better duelist' competition with amukiki) and power struggles always turns out sexy and/or exciting. I realize the game couldn't do this, but Amukiki falling for Loren, the hawk-blade-wielder/Amazon-princess who he is intensely jealous and critical of, could have been really, really hot. Particularly if she initially snubbed him -- Winterwolves needs more hate-sex(which-perhaps-turns-into-love-later). XD

Either way, it's good for romances to have some teeth -- and 'dorkier' options struggle to have that.

As far as Samuel, he's competing with a buff long-haired prince. Plotwise Samuel is probably one of the most muscular males in the game but Rigel's portrait is pretty buff as well. I do admit the PSCD romances in general were super traditional and formulaic(no teeth!). Lots of "I like you, let's go on a date, do you want to get a pet together?" It's more realistic than, say, Loren romances ... but realistic romances tend to wind up pretty plain. The exception is Mira for obvious reasons, but her competition is Mizuki and the writer did SUCH a good job with making her appeal to the geeky gamer crowd that I could see why she'd be more popular(RPG centaur-romance references? WIN!).

No one is allowed to read the above paragraph and think I'm totally knocking PSCD's writer. They did an awesome job. It's probably got the best writing of any winter wolves game. Whoever it was really, really delivered and should be commissioned to write future games, with perhaps small encouragement to write a couple more 'teethful' romances. :X I would have loved to see a smug bastard pull an alarm and put the base in lockdown just to physically corner/pressure one of the captains. Steamy!

PSCD's writer is Miakoda and indeed I've chained her to my desk, and I'm only giving her food if she writes at least 1500 words a day!
Jokes apart yes she'll work on other games for me in future. Well, she is ALREADY working on something, but it's a secret project  at least for now.

Agreed. In retrospect, if I had to do this over again, there would be some changes, etc.

May I have a few more links of chain to use the bathroom, sir? ;)

Hopefully we'll have something to share in a couple weeks. This project is definitely going to be on the shorter end. (I will say the artist is definitely kicking ass)

Eek! Ok. I didn't realize THE writer is lurking about. I'm about to go full fangirl.

Miakoda: that writing was awesome. Seriously. Your work was littered with excellent humor and smirk-inducing game/culture references. You totally embraced your audience. There were so many times your writing stirred appreciative thoughts out of me: "Oh it was really smart to have Mira comment on that considering her past" or "omg the writer is inputting comments about alien porn sites -- that's hilarious." Like, I could have lived my life without having images of Diana exploring Xavier's "foxhole" ... but I got a solid laugh out of it. PSCD is a really, really enjoyable read(and card game too!). And I realize I'm focusing on the humor but there were some wonderfully poignant scenes too(Galina mourning the fallen is just one of multiple examples). I am such a huge fan. Any game you write for winterwolves that game is gonna be an instabuy. Fan for life!

I feel stupid wanting to give any suggestions to you since you clearly and completely outclass my writing capabilities. But you're so good at going 'a litte crazy' with your writing I think you/jack may embrace this.

Hanako games has a really cool game called Black Closet. In Black Closet, you play as a female leader of a very strict academia college(entirely yuri which Im fine with). There's a romanceable cast and most of the romances are quite normal. But one of the characters with a 'normal' romance actually has an alternate romance path where, based on some of your dialogue decisions, you can end up in a real dom/sub semi-abusive relationship with her. This relationship path brought a real interesting, sinister edge to the main character, and it blew my mind that the game allowed you to go down a way darker path with a seemingly innocuous dialogue decision.

Point being: Id love to see that more often.

So yeah, looking at my dumb idea: I would have loved to see a smug bastard pull an alarm and put the base in lockdown just to physically corner/pressure one of the captains.
What if the possible options here brought you down slightly different paths? What if you A) play along with the womanizer and let him assert himself on you, B) Put him in his place! You're the captain, pull rank and assert yourself on HIM, or C) reject him entirely. If you pick A, he kind of ends up as the alpha of the relationship and maybe falls in love with you. If you pick B, you go down a path where captain Diana is more domineering/controlling of him and, by the end of the relationship path, he gets frustrated because his feelings somehow became romantic instead of simply lustful. Does Diana return his feelings or was she simply using the notorious womanizer that's probably broken 100 hearts and lied to women his whole life? User gets to decide.

Mind you, these don't have to be HUGE writing obligations for you. There may be a few different lines of dialogue, sexy scenes may involve Captain Diana grabbing guy by the jaw versus guy pressing Diana against a wall. Its probably unrealistic to do this with EVERY character but it really adds a lot to a game to have one or two romances that could shift entirely pending on user choices.

Aaaanyway. Done ranting! Thanks Miakoda and Jack for the pile of greatness that is PSCD. I really hope it does well -- I'd love to see more games just like it. :X

I think it is fair to say that I check the forums a couple times a day. That's why I can understand when certain things fall flat for some people, or where they can think some improvements could be made. I may not always reply, and there is no guarantee I can please everyone, but I do pay attention, and I appreciate the criticisms/input.

Trust me, I understand wanting something different :) Heck, I've been in that position as well (in my heart of hearts, I still would love an Anne X Sally romance in Roommates, but the only way that will happen is fanart ;) ).

That is also where planning ahead of time definitely helps, as well as experience from previous projects. That way, you could account for such things, and hopefully make time for it. Of course, sometimes you just can't. If I include the DLC, there is going to be over 300,000 words for PSCD. Sometimes things have to be cut/dropped just to be done.

Haha it makes me happy to see such appreciation for any of my writers. Means I made a good choice (not that I had any doubt in this case, you can check my posts before the game was public and I was already bragging about the writing ).
Your suggestions are welcome. I'm friend with Georgina that runs Hanako (we even did a game together in the far far ago 2008) but I totally missed that dark path  it's an interesting idea indeed, also considering many people liked the Chambara's dominant/submissive romance.

While I can't say for Miakoda's new project (we're still in design stage) I can already tell you that both Roger Steel AND Undead Lily will have a dominant/submissive thing, and it was a suggestion from the writer Fen. I think once those games will be (finally) out, they'll be quite popular since I like his writing a lot too :)

I would love more steamy romances too, but I'd need a fourth option in that scenario which is call Galina in to jail him for a few weeks to face disclipline. PSCD was written really well and I often felt the citizens were tense or frustrated with low supplies and such, even if I was romancing them putting the base on lockdown would be a bit too much, lol.

The writing was great and I enjoyed it a lot as well! The only thing that at times could be distracting is so much great character banter during another conversation could make me forget what it was beforehand.
