Water Element Creatures

Post by Miakoda »

Hope you don't mind, but I saw your twitter about possible water monsters. I have a few suggestions as well you might check into. Some will be mythology oriented.

I know you already have these covered:'
Kraken, leviathan, mermaid, shark, jellyfish, toad
Real Creatures:
Sea Anemone
Plesiosaur
Nautilus (a squid relative, but awesome shell)
Rays (like a manta ray, devil ray, etc.)
Clam (other shellfish could work)
Starfish
Leech (and the basis of the afanc...a Welsh monster that was a giant leech)
Crocodile/Alligator
Crab
Lobster

Mythological
Apophis (Egyptian mythology)
Scylla (Greek myth)
Kappa (Japanese monster, grows weak when it loses the water in its head)
Boobrie (giant waterfowl, Scottish myth...eats cattle)
Charybdis (Greek myth)
Ahuizotl (Aztec monster, a monkey/dog hybrid with a hand on its tail, known for drowning people)
Bunyip (Australian Aborigine)

Real Creatures:
Anglerfish (the ones with the light on the end of a fleshy protuberance to bring prey to their mouth)
Sawfish (I love the shape of their mouth)

Mythological Creatures
Djun (African monster, think of a giant chameleon, attacks with a giant tongue)
Fideal (Celtic monster, resembles a clump of weeds, entangles and drowns victims)
Iemisch (South American monster, think giant otter)

You might also adapt living world plants as well, such as water lilies, etc.

Haha thanks, those are more than enough :) I think we're going with a giant turtle, but will ask writer to check this list too.

Giant turtle could be great. I remember stories world over of turtles large enough they had trees growing on them, etc.

Anyways, if you need more idea later, certainly enough out there. :)

I like the Scylla. Could look good with the other cards as well. Giant turtle also a nice one. Although a giant otter sounds like an amazing monster.

Will ask the artist, as always will try to make her draw stuff she prefers since she's doing a great job (will post more previews, but they're all great).

I think this might give some inspiration: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neck_%28water_spirit%29

I like the idea of a Brook Horse.
