initial reactions to PR

Postby jack1974 » Thu May 03, 2012 6:28 pm

So today I sent the PR for Loren and was quite anxious
The general consensus is positive, I got requests for review copies from some bigger sites. I don't want to say which ones because I don't want to jinx my luck (since I'm not sure they will review it even if they asked for copies)! Other random comments I got was:
- "This looks like a slightly more complicated than most bishojo." - my comment: yeah, basically, is a visual novel!!
- "Old school RPG's did not have crappy anime-like themesongs to them. Also, does anyone else get a romance novel feel from it? I have a feeling this is a niche game." - my comment: I like the music
- "Loren The Amazon Princess initially seems like a clash of content and style. It’s quite clearly a Winter Wolves game and, if anything, seems to be closer to Always Remember Me in its presentation and potential player base." - this made me laugh, since I think he's completely off-target with everything he said  I'm OK with critics, but I can't see one single true thing on this sentence...! closer to Always Remember Me!?!?

so well, obviously the mainstream RPG players DON'T like anime art, but that's not something new. Many of them (including some indie friends who make RPGs) didn't like the theme song either - I personally like it, but perhaps wasn't a good move to put a j-pop music in a RPG game? not sure really.
I hope the game sells enough so I won't be forced to go back making only VN/Dating Sim! By the way I love making them, but I would also like to make more RPGs in future, but they're much more expensive and time-consuming to make

Will update this thread as more news/reviews appears :)

Keep in mind that's the reaction a lot of people have - until they actually play it.

Yes true, but I think is pretty silly to judge a game without actually playing it (for at least 15-20 minutes). Is like watching a movie poster and giving opinions just based on that

I do believe that when people actually play it they will be very impressed. Of course it is not the same as other games - if it was the same there would be no point in making it. I think LTAP is in it's own league and might take a little while to catch on, but will ultimately prove very popular.

Best Regards

The game is fantastic. It is a niche game and will appeal to certain players but there are many of them out there! I personally love the art and I am a serious RPG player. (You should see the hours I have sunk into final fantasy and skyrim.) I have every confidence this game will do well. I agree with Jim, it might take a while for LTAP to get it's name out there, but word of mouth is a powerful thing and you already have many loyal fans who will spread the word, myself included ;-)

Hi there there. Basically (without considering other thousand considerations) games have two "important" classifications. A game I would like to play and a game I would pay to play it.

There is a lot of games at the market. Of course there isn't a fixed criteria to say "this one is good". Its more a "personal perception". Big companies put prices about 50,60 or even 70 € to games that personally, I would like to play if a friend buyed it, but I WOULDN'T pay for it. Is not Loren's case.

I'm aware that the game can improve yet, that it isn't created with the high-tech-turbo-plus-AAA-I'm cool technologies. But its simply, a great game. Loren it's a game "I would pay for it-class".

I asked a few people about if they will buy it and I got different reactions like "yes, maybe and too expensive". Personally, and also considering the actual market, as I said, I would pay for it.

But, personally, there is a main reason that makes me decide to buy it. People behind. I'll explain it.

At other AAA's forums game (and I mean a REALLY big company), or even at cutomer attention service, If you try to ask for help, or even suggest game improvements, designers come flying with a winged unicorn and with epic backgroud music and saying "THIS GAME IS GOD'S WORK! IT PERFECT AND IT WON'T CHANGE!" [Dramatism off XD). This uses to happen because they have to mantain the "big companies never make mistakes because its prestige".

I'm aware that its hard for a big company to attend all users petitions but, when there isn't at least and for beeing polite, a minimal consideration, you know that they doesn't really care about their costumers.

As a creator too, I know that nasty sensations when you create or express something beautiful that you want to share with people (in this case thanks to a game story) and appear the first savage troll and say "what a big piece of sh...!" XDD

Well, going back about I was going to say XD It may result stupid but I decided to buy the game thanks to the attention from you, the creators.

Personally I give the game around a 7, but a potential about 9 or 9,5. My punctuation isn't exagerated because I'm considering the class and type of game. So, for me, this game has a INCREDIBLE potential to become something incredible.

That's the main reason I like to give, as much as I can, my five cents everytime I see something that I believe that can improve or gather info from other players considerations to improve the game (even if I not agree with them).

So, my summary its THANKS people. Please, continue so on.

A big hug to you!

Well, for now, my PR was ignored as usual by the big sites (even if some might still do a review in 1-2 weeks), but many people on twitter/FB are talking about it. Most of the game exposure comes from word of mouth indeed, and that's something new for me :)

You know i saw another virtual novel on Steam, ANalogue something, and I must say I'm shocked that none of your (clearly superior) games are on that portal! I mean, yours are so nice to look at, and they also have GAMEPLAY, like Planet Stronghold or Loren. I think I'm happy not to be a game author, I would be nerve-whacked if I had to suffer such a torture, as being ignored after making top.-quality products like yours. Good luck anyway in all your future endeavors !

As usual, some will get what the game is about and others will be way-off mark. Btw, what did RockPaperShotgun say?
